Project Lead
Lal is a Principal Advisor and Head of Education at the Behavioural Insights Team, and has been working in the Education team for the last 8 years.
He has led projects aiming to improve a range of school outcomes, including pupil attendance, engagement and attainment, and teacher wellbeing. His work also includes the initial UK trial of the Tips by Text programme with the Education Endowment Foundation in the 2019/20 school year.
Previously, Lal taught both Economics and Politics at A-level and worked as an economist in central government.
Expert Advisor
Fionnuala is currently seconded to Nesta and is the lead behavioural scientist on their fairer start mission. At BIT she led the team’s work on early years, which included projects to improve access to, and the quality of, early childhood education. She has worked with partners to help parents foster effective learning environments at home, and she led the initial UK trial of the Tips by Text programme with the Education Endowment Foundation in the 2019/20 school year.
Fionnuala is working towards a PhD in Experimental Psychology with a focus on early years development at the University of Oxford.
School Engagement Lead
Callum is an Advisor in BIT's Education Team. Since joining the team, he has worked with more than 400 schools to design and test interventions to improve outcomes in education. Recently, he worked on a large Education Endowment Foundation trial testing Stop and Think, a computer-assisted learning programme which uses quizzes and games to help primary school pupils tackle misconceptions in maths and science.
Prior to joining BIT, Callum trained as a primary school teacher in the South East of England.
School Engagement
Andrés is an Associate Advisor in BIT’s Education team. He has worked on projects aimed at reducing the attainment gap in education. Recently, he worked on an Education Endowment Foundation funded study focused on improving reading comprehension in reception children.
Prior to joining BIT, Andrés completed an MSc in Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. He has also worked in clinical psychology organisations.
School Engagement
Lily is a Research Assistant in the Education Team at BIT. Prior to joining BIT, Lily completed a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Exeter. After graduating, Lily was President of Exeter’s Student Guild for two years where she was involved in local and national campaigns on widening access to Higher Education and student wellbeing.
